If you need a cheap laptop for university, then you might want to take a look at this incredible deal on Acer’s entry-level device.

Even if you have an iPad in your possession, there’s a good chance that you’ll still want to adopt a more traditional set-up at some point with a laptop.

If you’re after something very affordable, you might be tempted by this 40% discount on the Acer Aspire 1 A114-33 that brings it down to only £144.

While there’s no denying that the Aspire 1 is an entry-level laptop that’s not really equipped for anything more intense than basic tasks, it is still a great option for students who need an affordable computer to get them through their studies.

Inside there’s an Intel Celeron N4500 processor and 4GB of RAM. While these specs won’t be able to tackle heavy-duty applications like photo and video editing, they are perfectly serviceable for word processing, spreadsheet work and a bit of light internet browsing.

In fact, for college work you might find that this laptop is all you need, as most of the work will be done in a web browser. The 14-inch HD display also offers a decent enough viewing experience for working through documents and slideshows – or relaxing with some Netflix.

The only real concern is the fairly limited 64GB eMMC which, unless you’re primarily using web-based apps like Google Docs, or relying on cloud storage like Google Drive for managing your files, might struggle to carry all of your work. External hard drives and USB sticks can offer a great workaround here. Still, for £144 it’s hard to argue with the overall value proposition here.
