Apple TV+ has so far had its most successful year ever. Severance was a big part of that, but so too were several hit new series. For example, Jon Hamm’s Your Friends & Neighbors was Apple’s most watched new drama ever, and now season 2 is in the works. Here’s what we know so far.
Season 2 was greenlit before Your Friends & Neighbors even aired
In a move that’s become increasingly rare at Apple, Your Friends & Neighbors was picked up for a second season before season 1 even aired.
Back in November 2024, a full six months before Your Friends & Neighbors premiered, Apple greenlit season 2.
This very seldom happens anymore, and was seen as a sign of Apple’s confidence in the new series becoming a hit—which it turns out, it was right about.
What’s coming next for Jon Hamm’s ‘Coop’ and more
Jonathan Tropper, the creator of Your Friends & Neighbors, has shared in various interviews what’s coming next for Jon Hamm’s Coop character and the rest of the ensemble.
In an interview with Variety, Tropper shared:
“Coop is never gonna become a criminal kingpin. We’re not going down the Walter White road,” Tropper says, referring to Bryan Cranston’s drug lord on “Breaking Bad.” “So, it’s never gonna be about building a big criminal enterprise. But what it is about is the risk and reward ratio, what it takes both to make him feel alive and to do what at least he tells himself in his mind — what’s the exit strategy? Right now, we’ve only caught him after a season at the point where he’s figured out what he’s not gonna be, but I don’t think he’s yet figured out what it is he is going to be.”
Similarly, he outlined what to expect from two significant women in Coop’s life: Sam and Mel.
“The joy of Season 2 is we can explore Sam independent of Coop and give her a new storyline…What she’s done is something far more opaque and far more complicated to process. And it’s not just complicated for her to process, it’s complicated for the neighborhood to process. For her, a lot of Season 2 is, a kind of awakening of, ‘It’s not yours if you can’t keep it.’ And so it’s how does she deal with the public scrutiny? How does she deal with reinventing herself in this community? And how does she deal with the emotional fallout of what she’s been through?”

“Basically, everyone is confronting their great emptiness,” Tropper says. “But the emptiness in Mel is leading to anger and rage and lashing out that she hasn’t reckoned with yet. And for us, Season 2 is gonna be to really dig into that reckoning.”
Season 2 to follow the ‘Empire Strikes Back’ formula
In an interview with WHTR, Jonathan Tropper remarked on his overall approach to the show’s new season.
“I always treat second seasons like ‘The Empire Strikes Back.’ Things have to get darker, deeper, more complex and the stakes have to just get bigger for everybody, and that’s kind of what we’re working on.”
When to expect Your Friends & Neighbors season 2 on Apple TV+
Your Friends & Neighbors season 1 concluded in late May 2025, and season 2 began shooting while the show’s first season was still airing.
As a result of the early renewal and quick start to shooting, we shouldn’t have to wait too long for a new season.
Currently, Your Friends & Neighbors season 2 seems likely to hit Apple TV+ in spring 2026. That would mean only about a 1-year wait in between seasons.
