AMD wants to create a new category of personal computers that, under the name of Agent Computer, would be intended for run AI models locally and would compete with NVIDIA’s DGX Spark.
The chipmaker notes that while most users access chatbots and AI tools online, some also run AI agents locally on their own hardware, as demonstrated by OpenClaw, the open source project that runs on laptops or mini-PCs.
However, for the best performance, AMD says its latest Ryzen AI Max processors are ready to address a market niche that has great growth potential. The idea is familiar: AI development tasks that previously seemed reserved for specialized servers or workstations can now be executed on an ultralight laptop.
Agent Computer para IA local
“Powerful AI agents need high processing power, and that’s what AMD offers. “They need a new kind of machine.”says the company on its blog. «A personal computer runs your applications. An agent computer runs your agents so they can run applications for you. That’s the change.”.
AMD envisions a near future where people hire local agents to help them complete a wide range of tasks throughout the day, acting as a loyal assistant. Of course, first they will have to overcome many obstacles and regain trust, especially in transparency and security.
«Not all AI workloads need to be in a hyperscaler’s data center«explains AMD, referring to online services such as ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini. “People and businesses want control over their data, affordable AI they can use daily without limits, and confidence that their AI works for them. This makes local, privacy-focused, always-on computing a real and growing need for consumers, creators, developers, startups and SMEs.”.
AMD invites users to consult the «Agent Computer for Windows» from AMD, including the HP Z2 Mini G1a, a compact configurable desktop computer with the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 chip and 128 GB of RAM. Another product presented is the AI Workstation 300 desktop computer from Corsair. Both can be configured with 128 GB of RAM, an amount of memory that allows computers to run more advanced and complex language models, with a size of up to 200 billion parameters.
The “new” category promoted by AMD aims to counteract the announcements that NVIDIA plans to make at its GTC 2026 developer conference, including news for DGX Spark, the platform that the green giant has developed as “personal AI supercomputers”a new group of machines for artificial intelligence development and research from the computing desktop.
As we said, the development of AI is not limited to gigantic data centers and the computing desktop also has its relevance to advance the revolution. That is the objective of NVIDIA and also that of AMD with its Agent Computers: put an AI server on the workbench within reach of researchers.
