LibreOffice 26.8 merged initial support for adding a donation banner to its Start Center. This initial UI when launching LibreOffice aims to make users aware of the community-driven focus of the project and to hopefully solicit additional donations from the community.
A task opened a few weeks ago by The Document Foundation calls for a donation banner to be added to the LibreOffice Start Center, which shows recent documents and other information when initially launching this open-source office suite. The intent is to help encourage users to donate to this community-driven alternative to the likes of Microsoft Office.
The task calls for the bottom third or so of the Start Center to serve as a donation banner. Merged yesterday was the initial “donate banner” implementation.
At the moment it’s just placeholder text and an example image. The actual wording of the donation banner is still being sorted out as well as a proper image for the donation banner.
These screenshots were from today’s LibreOffice master daily build. Clicking on the donation button takes users to the LibreOffice donation webpage. By the time LibreOffice 26.8 ships in August the cleaned-up donation banner should be in order.
