Add YouTube to the list of subscription media services raising prices. The video service’s Premium subscription tiers are all getting a price hike ranging from a $1 increase for the most basic plan to a $4 increase for the Premium Family plan, which now costs $27 a month.

On its home page for Premium, YouTube adjusted to the new pricing on April 10, which has already applied to new subscribers. Some subscribers will start seeing an increase on their next billing cycles; they can expect at least 30 days’ notice confirming new prices before the change happens.

“We’re updating the price for YouTube Premium plans in the US for the first time since 2023 to continue delivering a high-quality experience that supports creators and artists on YouTube,” a spokesperson said in a statement. They said the price increase will help maintain features such as ad-free viewing, background play and more than 300 million tracks on YouTube Music.

The lowest tier, Premium Lite, now costs $9 a month. The tier makes most YouTube and YouTube Kids videos ad-free and allows for the ability to download most YouTube videos. Premium, which has increased by $2 to $16 a month, expands the range of ad-free videos and adds YouTube Music without ads. Premium Family, which has increased by $4 to $27 a month, can be used by up to five additional family members aged 13 and older. Annual subscriptions to those plans can reduce their prices over the long haul.

All the tiers of YouTube Premium are available for a one-month trial.

If you choose not to pay the higher rates, you can cancel or pause your subscription on YouTube’s website.

YouTube is just the latest in a series of streaming services that have raised prices in the last few months, including Spotify and Netflix. Last year, streamers including Paramount Plus, Amazon’s ad-free Prime Video and Disney Plus saw increased prices for subscribers.
