According to media reports, the discounter Aldi Süd is cutting around 1,250 jobs at its headquarters in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The largest part of this comes from the international IT and digital division Aldi DX.

“The aim is to cut around 1,250 jobs by the end of 2027,” the discounter told Grocery Newspaper. “Aldi Süd has always optimized processes and structures.” In this context, the company has now announced that it will be implementing a volunteer program in the Aldi International Services area for the first time. According to the report, jobs are also being lost in international purchasing.
When asked, the Aldi Süd Holding in Salzburg simply said: “We do not comment on internal matters or speculation.” Aldi International Services is the international service and administration division of Aldi Süd, in which central functions such as IT and purchasing are bundled. According to the company, around 3,900 people are still employed at Aldi DX.
IT tasks outsourced
As the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ) reports, citing insiders, the workforce at the Mülheim site is to be reduced to 2,300 by the end of 2027. Aldi DX therefore wants to outsource some tasks, mainly to Hungary. Team sizes are expected to shrink by 25 to 30 percent. The management structure is also to be thinned out; around 40 percent of the directors and 30 percent of the managers are to leave Aldi DX.
According to WAZ, Aldi DX cut 400 jobs in Mülheim last year. At that time, IT tasks were outsourced to service providers from the Indian Tata Group. According to reports, Aldi Süd had increased its IT department to over 4,000 employees in recent years. In November 2024, a separate company called Aldi DX was founded for this purpose. The strategy of bundling competencies there is now apparently history.
