Dress codes for men: What is business casual?
SHARE

Profitipp: Business Casual is not to be confused with Casual or Casual Friday. The definition for this dress code is: suit with shirt without tie. A combination of jacket and trousers without a tie would also be possible. A button-down shirt instead of a business shirt is possible here. A dress code that we find almost everywhere today as a business look in companies.

gaffe: jeans that are too casual, boat shoes or clothing that is too colorful. The word “business” still indicates the framework in which you find yourself.

Casual

occasions: Brunch, sightseeing as part of a business trip, internal meeting outside the office

Tipp: This dress code suggests a casual look, but only within reason: jeans, shorts and open shoes are absolutely taboo. Polo shirts, colored shirts and/or fine knitted sweaters in combination with cotton or corduroy trousers are stylish.

That doesn’t work at all: Sports clothing is not desired. Save your shorts for beach vacations.

Come as you are (smart casual)

occasions: Business lunch or drink after work

Tipp: This dress code actually means what it sounds like: Come as you are (after office hours), leave your suit on and take off your tie, no need to change. However, if you come straight from home, you shouldn’t fall into the trap of showing up in overly comfortable casual clothes. A correct (business) look is expected, so shirt and trousers are the basics.

That doesn’t work at all: Casual clothing such as jeans and a t-shirt.

Sneakers im Business

Today, sneakers are not only worn in leisure time in combination with the right outfit. If you choose a timeless design, you can combine sneakers with a casual look and business outfits. Stay away from fabric or upbeat design when combining it with suits. Leather and subtle colors such as blue, black or even white are possible if you want sneakers to match your formal wardrobe.

This doesn’t work at all: Sneakers for formal occasions with dress codes: tuxedo, tailcoat or black suit

The high-quality jacket

You can recognize a high-quality business jacket by the fact that it has a pocket for a business card on the inside at the bottom left. In addition, the more expensive jacket has four buttons on the sleeves instead of three.

… when the collar of the jacket wraps around the neck below the shirt collar in such a way that the shirt collar protrudes by about one and a half centimeters. There should be no wrinkles under the collar, otherwise the jacket will appear too tight or too wide.

A tie is a statement. Therefore, tie them neatly with the top shirt button fastened.

Nothing ruins your outfit faster than a styleless or neglected shoe. You can always go right with the classics (Oxfords and Brogues).

You don’t wear brown belts or brown shoes with black suits. At least not as a German. Italians also do this combination in a chic way.

Business casual as a dress code suggests a leisure look, but only within appropriate limits: jeans are absolutely taboo, as are shorts or open shoes.
