During its annual WWDC 2026 conference, Apple has lifted the veil on a significant advance in digital security. Integrated into the Apple Intelligence suite, a new capability will soon make it possible to automatically correct passwords deemed vulnerable. This feature, which will be rolled out with future software updates, promises to radically simplify the account security management online for millions of users, by acting in a way totally autonomous in the background.

How does this new security function work in practice?

Until now, Apple’s tools, like Safari and the Passwords app, have only alerted users. They reported passwords that were too simple, reused on several sites or appeared in known data breaches. The Cupertino company is taking a new decisive step by moving from a passive posture to one action proactive.

The new system, described by Apple as “ agentic “, uses Apple Intelligence to securely connect to affected websites. This is a major advance in terms of cybersecurityas the AI then navigates autonomously to replace the old password with a new, robust and unique version. Everything takes place without the user having to intervene beyond theinitial process approval.

What is the technology behind this automation?

Driving this innovation is Apple Intelligence, the new suite of capabilities based onartificial intelligence generative of the brand. To ensure strong password generation and secure browsing, Apple relies on its own language modelsthe Apple Foundation Models. These latter were partly developed in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models.

The question of the confidentiality remains central to Apple’s approach. The brand ensures that most operations are carried out locally on the device. For tasks requiring greater computing power, the system uses “ Private Cloud Compute ”, a cloud infrastructure designed so that personal data is neither stored nor accessible by Apple or third parties.

How will users be able to control this process?

The interface has been designed to remain simple and transparent. In the “Security” tab of the Passwords application, accounts with compromised credentials will be listed. A simple button “ Fix passwords » will start the bulk process. Progress will be visible for each account, through clear statuses like “ Connection in progress » and “Upgraded Security”.

This update will be included in iOS 27the stable version of which is expected in September. Users will be able to follow the operation in real time via a “ Live Activity » and will have the opportunity tocancel the process halfway if necessary. The complete list of passwords changed by the AI will of course be viewable directly in the application.
