Just a couple of weeks ago it was learned that Google will not have to sell Chrome, a possibility that was on the table for months because of the last judicial process motivated by the company’s monopolistic practices with its browser and search engine. Consequently, all potential buyers, mainly companies such as OpenAi or Perplexity, will have to continue building their browsers with AI on their own.

But they will have competition, and that is that Google seemed to be waiting for this moment to announce what anyone could imagine for a long time: Chrome as “an AI -centered browser”textual words with which the Internet giant advances its plans towards one of the key pieces of its advertising gear. And «it is not just about adding new functions; It is about radically changing the nature of navigation and moving from a passive experience to a more proactive and intelligent, ”they explain.

“It’s about creating a browser that goes beyond rendering the website, one who understands it, helps you to be more productive and keep you safer online,” the company explains in the official blog. «We are developing A browser focused on AI that uses the context, such as the page you are reading or the eyelashes that you have open, to help you do things more quickly, simple and safely that never ». That is, they are doing the same as Openai or Perplexity, but a clear advantage.

Google has already advanced the first characteristics that the browser will receive in this regard and is one of the most ambitious proposals we have seen. Among the most prominent novelties is the ability to ask Gemini to clarify complex information on any page or to summarize and compare content of several tabs at the same time; Remember pages seen above with simple indications in natural language; either Direct integration with Google applications as as YouTube, Calendar or Maps to answer questions or execute actions without changing tab.

Google also prepares a “agricultural” in which the assistant will be able to carry out repetitive tasks such as reserve appointments or make the purchase online, acting on the name of the user and under their control. And to all this is added the new “AI Mode” in the Omnibox, which enables long and complex consultations from the address bar, with enriched responses and the possibility of re -questioning without abandoning the page.

In Security matter Chrome reinforces his protection with Gemini Nano, which already helps detect technical support frauds and will also closely block sites with false viruses or deceptive raffles. The browser now detects and filters suspicious notifications (Google claims to have reduced the annoying alerts on Android by 3,000 million and automatically adjusts permits requests depending on the reliability of the site and user preferences. Finally, a new system is released to change passwords engaged in a single step on specific platforms.

In summary, if someone believed that Google had no plans for AI in Chrome, beyond the details that the browser had so far, the company’s letters are already on the table. Chrome will not only overcome what Microsoft did with Copilot in Edge: it intends to mark the new standard before the competition has the opportunity to do so. The competition, in fact, will no longer be between browsers, but between artificial intelligence ecosystems.
