After making its long-awaited debut on iPads, Instagram seems to be thinking even bigger – quite literally. The Meta-owned platform is now exploring a dedicated TV app, according to Instagram chief Adam Mosseri. Speaking at Bloomberg’s Screentime conference, Mosseri said the company wants to bring Instagram to “all the relevant devices,” and that includes your living room TV. While the plan is still in the early stages, Mosseri acknowledged that it makes sense to follow users where they spend more of their viewing time. With many people now consuming short-form and long-form videos on their TVs, Instagram doesn’t want to be left behind. news Also Read: WhatsApp Status Sharing On Facebook And Instagram Coming Soon: Here Is How It Will Work

Why Instagram On TV Will Be An Important Step

It must be noted that Instagram began as a simple photo-sharing app, but over the years, it has transformed its user base to several other factors. Today, it’s more about videos, Stories, and most importantly – Reels, the short video clips that quickly grab attention. news Also Read: Instagram And Facebook Will Soon Use Your Meta AI Chats To Shape Ads And Content

Now, TVs have become the new home for video streaming, with platforms like YouTube and OTT platforms booming there. So, having an Instagram app for TVs could make sense as it would let you watch Reels or other video content on a bigger screen without switching to another platform.

Interestingly, Mosseri said that Instagram isn’t planning to stream live sports or movies, unlike traditional TV apps, the report mentioned. Instead, the focus will remain on creator-driven content – just displayed in a way that fits the big screen experience.

Following the iPad Launch and Video Push

Earlier this year, Instagram launched its iPad app, something users had been requesting for years. The app opens directly into the Reels feed, highlighting just how central video has become to the platform. In fact, Instagram is also redesigning its navigation bar to give Reels a more prominent spot.

This renewed focus on video is part of Instagram’s ongoing competition with TikTok. The company even launched its own video editing app to rival TikTok’s CapCut, especially in regions like India where TikTok remains banned.
