The new connection between Claude and Slack simplifies and accelerates AI work for teams from the ground up. Claude Tag is designed in such a way that employees can easily assign specific tasks to the tool in their channels, as they would otherwise have done with responsible personnel, from pull requests to data analysis. It is also an advantage that all team members interact with the same tool, so that every progress can be seen by everyone. Anthropic itself sees Claude Tag as an advance in the Claude Code tool – and states that it does an enormous amount of work internally with it.
This is how Claude Tag works: Connect in the Slack channel, manage access and set the budget
“(…) Tagging @Claude is now one of the main ways we get things done at Anthropic,” explains the AI company’s team on Linkedin. Accordingly, 65 percent of the new code from the Anthropics product team is generated via Claude Tag. Claude Tag is a further development of the coding agent Claude Code. Claude Tag is used in the communication tool Slack and acts like an additional team member with high performance and the willingness to work for everyone. It is initially available in beta for Enterprise and Team customers.
The tool can be linked to various Slack channels so that all users have access and insight into the respective work processes and progress. To do this, the administrators must connect Claude Tag to the appropriate workspace. It replaces the Claude app in Slack and is available via opt-in. Admins can then manage access permissions for tools, channels and learning processes from these channels. If Claude Tag is allowed to draw conclusions from communication in the channel, the tool can derive contexts from this and even independently create and plan future tasks.
It is also important for the administrators to set a spending limit for Claude usage per month – after all, the use of the coding AI costs and with Claude Code it is calculated according to API token consumption. Anthropic initially provides a so-called launch credit so that companies with Claude Enterprise and Claude Team access can test the tool. The administrators should first check the linked tool in a private channel to see whether it works.

When things work: Claude Tag as a team member with AI knowledge and initiative
Once Claude Tag is running in the Slack cosmos, all employees can promptly assign tasks to the tool with simple instructions. The tool processes this with support from the AI model Claude Opus 4.8. If the newer models in the Mythos series are released again soon, Claude Fable 5 could become the standard model for Claude Code and Claude Tag. Claude Tag divides the tasks it receives into several steps and processes them using the tools to which access has been granted. The tool then delivers the results in a Slack thread.
The advantage here is that Claude Tag acts as a team member for everyone and not isolated in private chats. Anthropic explains:
„(…) This means that anyone can see what it’s working on, and can pick up the conversation from where the last person left off. This makes tagging Claude very different from working within a single chat or for a single task—it’s much more like interacting collaboratively with a teammate.“
Additionally, individuals can send Claude messages, which the tool will reply to privately. Claude Tag can also autonomously track tasks for hours or even days without employees having to intervene or work on the project themselves. These tasks can even come from Claude himself. Because Claude Tag can remember contexts and does not have to be informed about the projects with long explanations if they have already been outlined in a channel. When releasing access, the tool can also include contexts from other channels.
If ambient mode is activated, the tool can even proactively share updates about the work process and tell employees on Slack what they should know. For example, a query can be asked if individual tasks have not yet been tracked by teams without completion. Claude Tag becomes another work tool from Anthropic’s AI family, alongside Claude Code – what it is based on – Claude Cowork, Claude Design and Co.
