AI in GRC: AuditBoard readies for a compliance surge – News

Artificial intelligence is forcing governance, risk and compliance to move from intent to action. In fact, the matter of AI in GRC is steering the trajectory of enterprise risk management. For thought leaders, the question is no longer if a shift is coming – it is how quickly they can execute it responsibly.

AuditBoard Inc. entered this financial quarter with surging momentum, surpassing $300 million in annual recurring revenue. In the GRC sector, the company has been named a leader in major 2025 GRC evaluations from the likes of IDC MarketScape. Now, it is pressing the point that governance discipline – not budget – is AI’s litmus test, according to Raul Villar Jr., chief executive officer of AuditBoard.

“AI implementation is becoming a defining moment for every enterprise,” he said, referencing key findings in AuditBoard’s Risk Intelligence report. “Our research shows that the ‘middle-maturity trap’ isn’t a budget problem; it’s an execution gap where inconsistent governance undermines the full promise of AI. To close this gap, businesses must make governance a continuous, shared habit across audit, risk and compliance teams.”

TheCUBE, News Media’s livestreaming studio, will cover Audit & Beyond live on Oct. 22, with exclusive interviews conducted by Rob Strechay, managing director and principal analyst at theCUBE Research, and host Rebecca Knight. Viewers can expect a candid look at how enterprises move from trials to AI-enabled assurance – and what it takes to keep ethics intact while automating more of the work that auditors, risk leaders and security teams do.

AI in GRC demands execution, not intent

Acquired by Hg Capital in a $3 billion deal in 2024, AuditBoard has continued to scale its platform and AI features throughout 2025. The findings in the Risk Intelligence report will no doubt inform this year’s conference as enterprises look to turn intent into measurable control coverage.

“Today’s risk environment is more complex and dynamic than ever and enterprises are increasingly turning to AI to navigate this threat landscape,” said Happy Wang, chief product and technology officer at AuditBoard, in a press release this week. “Our data shows that enterprises are eager to experiment and invest, but the intent is not translating into reliable execution. The key difference between leaders and laggards is not budget, but the discipline to embed governance, ownership and cadence across all risk dimensions.”

These statements echo the company’s findings in July, where a survey suggested that while 82% of enterprises asked have deployed AI in workflows, only a quarter have fully implemented the necessary guardrails. Key obstacles include ownership, expertise and resources. The key takeaway: Awareness does not equal preparedness.

These themes will underpin major discussions at Audit & Beyond. TheCUBE will deliver full coverage with analyst-driven insights on what AI in GRC means for enterprises that are as agile as they are accountable. Follow theCUBE’s wall-to-wall coverage for firsthand insights.
