AI Video Claiming Apple Will Ditch USB-C On IPhone 18 Goes Viral On TikTok

An AI-generated concept video showing a MagSafe port instead of a USB-C port on the iPhone 18 has gone viral on TikTok. The clip looked so realistic that it drew strong reactions on social media, with some users believing Apple was trying to make more money by forcing a new charging system.

As reported in NewsGuard’s Reality Check newsletter, the original video was posted by the TikTok account @AppleLuxs and garnered more than 16.8 million views and 760,000 likes. A couple of others rehashed the same video with captions criticizing the move, and they also got over 2 million views.

In the video, the iPhone 18 appears to have a MagSafe port instead of the USB-C port Apple has used on iPhones since the iPhone 15. MagSafe is a magnetic charging connector that snaps into place on its own. If the cable gets pulled, it detaches easily rather than dragging the device along. Apple mainly uses these ports on select MacBooks.

The idea that these MagSafe connectors will be included with the iPhone 18 is unsubstantiated. The EU has mandated USB-C for all smartphones, and Apple won’t risk going against the regulation. Elsewhere, a large number of users have already gotten used to USB-C charging, and switching to a new format could frustrate users, which Apple won’t risk, either.

One more thing needs clarification: MagSafe connectors don’t require a special wall adapter. The end that goes into the adapter is USB-C, so your existing iPhone or MacBook charger will suffice. Therefore, claims by social media users that Apple would make more money by selling new adapters are also untrue.

We also found copies and links to the AppleLuxs video on X. One of them had over 5.2 million impressions, and the comments under it suggested that at least a few believed the change was happening for real.

Apple has not made any official announcement about a port change for the iPhone 18, and it is highly unlikely the company will announce one in the future. If you come across a video showing a MagSafe connector on the iPhone 18, treat it as a conceptual clip made for entertainment—at least until reputed leakers and news outlets report on the same.

As for the iPhone 18 series, the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are expected to be announced this fall. According to leaker Fixed Focus Digital, Apple won’t make any major design changes to these phones, thanks to the success of the iPhone 17 series.
