A human -based human, a first -rate cosmic entity on arrival
If you have seen The fantastic 4: first stepsyou were able to appreciate the first steps (of giant) of Galactus in the MCU. These are promising, full of stakes and ultimately raise a lot of questions. A sentence, in particular, pronounced by the devourer of worlds, is far from trivial. While the fantastic four appear in front of him to negotiate the survival of the earth, the latter, in all his immensity, tells them that “Formerly, he was as small as they are.”
This sentence refers directly to the origins of the character. Before being a leading cosmic entity, Galactus was a living being. A human. He replied on behalf of Galan, a scientist from the planet Taa. This was part of a universe sinking following a cosmic disaster, causing the Big Crunch, by definition, the reverse of the Big Bang. Rather than staying without doing anything, Galan decides to go on a journey into space to understand the cataclysm in progress, in the hope of reverse it. The scientist then discovers an entity, the consciousness of the universe and merges with it, absorbing by the same the energy equivalent of the Big Bang. Galan derives for billions of years in a cosmic egg, before emerging in a new form, that of Galactus, the cosmic entity that we know well in Marvel comics.
A being that can change its size
This data, it seems, embarrassed a lot of people and during our viewings of The Fantastic Four in theaters, it also was debated. Galactus size and gigantism in the film seem to below a certain audience. In a way, by swallowing planets, it avoids excessive development of life in certain corners of the universe. The real final boss of the MCU?
The powers of Galactus are numerous and frightening. We have listed a few: He can reshape matter, absorb life and any form of energy, destroy and recreate any form of life, communicate by telepathy, probe the thought of living beings and has a level of understanding of things and the unparalleled universe, masters telekinesis, teleportation, gravity … His powers allow him to transform reality and give it the form he wishes. This is how he can create his heralds and give them incredible powers, such as the silver surfer, the most famous or Nova, from a fragment of his cosmic power. Although it has already been destroyed in several stories, Galactus is immortal because it has always returned, in one way or another. And his disappearance caused more concerns than anything in the cosmic balance.
In the new Marvel film, The fantastic four arrive, thanks to the sacrifice of Susan Storm, to send it to another dimension. It is obvious that this will not be enough to settle his case. Galactus is led to return. But how? And when? While the MCU is preparing to experience a soft reboot of its universe, in order to integrate once and for all the big families of superheroes (Avengers, Four Fantastic, X-Men), Galactus would be a sufficiently powerful and dangerous enemy to bring together all these little people in front of him and offer us a major confrontation … even more memorable than that ofAvengers Endgame ?
