AMAZON will begin rolling out a new wave of bans to clamp down on Brits pirating premium TV content.

The global tech giant recently confirmed it will update its Fire TV Sticks in the next few months.

Amazon has already rolled out the ban in some parts of Europe

An Amazon spokesperson, speaking to the Mirror Online, said: “Piracy is illegal, and we’ve always worked to block it from our Appstore.

“We’ll now block apps identified as offering access to pirated content, including those installed from outside our Appstore.

“This builds on our ongoing efforts to support creators and protect customers, as piracy can also expose users to malware, viruses and fraud.”

Fire TV Sticks will soon be blocked on illegal apps, making it harder for thousands of Brits to pirate the content they want, reports the mirror.

AMAZ-ED!

Amazon Prime members have DAYS left to claim bonus freebie worth £44

This comes as more than a thousand Brits were sent warning letters for illegally streaming Premier League games with “loaded” Fire Sticks, or Android and Kodi boxes.

These modified devices provide access to a number of premium TV services, including live football matches and unreleased movies.

The programme update led by a global piracy coalition, Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment, will remove swathes of content for Fire TV Stick users.

Amazon has already introduced the ban across parts of Europe and is expecting to roll it out in the UK in the coming months.

With some viewers tempted to look for other illegal ways to stream, experts have warned this behaviour carries serious risk that can leave households financially exposed.

“With household budgets under real pressure, we’re seeing people take risks they wouldn’t normally consider, including turning to dubious IPTV boxes,” said Sebastien Lahtinen, Director of Thinkbroadband.com.

“Trying to save a few pounds a month can end up creating major cybersecurity problems.”
