Since 2019, Amazon has been selling Echo Frames, audio glasses that allow you to listen to music, answer calls and interact with Alexa. Three generations succeeded each other, the last in 2023, without unleashing the enthusiasm of the crowds. But the group now wants to move up a gear, with models incorporating a real augmented reality display.
A general public model for 2026-2027
According to indiscretions reported by The InformationAmazon develops two distinct projects. The first, baptized internally “Amelia”, is aimed at delivery drivers. These glasses should project directly into the vision field of the instructions to organize and carry out their tours. More imposing, they would be thought of as a working tool, and Amazon would aim for an initial production of 100,000 units from next year.

The second project, named “Jayhawk”, this time targets Mr. and Madame Tout-le-Monde. Lighter and with neat design, these glasses should integrate a color screen into a single eye, as well as microphones, speakers and even a camera. Their launch is scheduled for the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027, without indication of Price for the moment.
This time, Amazon really wants to weigh with all its weight in a still stammering market, but more and more coveted. The company uses for its prototypes a display technology developed by the Chinese company Meta-Bounds, already used by manufacturers like Meizu. Amazon will have to make its marketing fire power speak to impose its echo frames in the face of Meta competition … and others.
Precisely, Meta is preparing new Ray-Ban glasses with screen that could be announced during its Connect conference on September 17 and 18. The social networks giant also works on more ambitious models, such as the “Orion” prototype with display in both eyes. These glasses would complete its range of mounts already on sale, equipped with cameras and access to its AI assistant.
Other Chinese actors such as Xreal, Rokid or Rayneo are already selling AR glasses around the world, while Snap or Google multiply demonstrations. The competition therefore promises to be tight. But Amazon does not leave without a small step ahead, with its colossal means and a huge base of users.
