AMAZON Prime Video is preparing to unleash a huge TV picture quality upgrade later this year on many of its favourite shows.

Viewers can expect more realistic images, greater detail and vividness as part of the move.

But you’ll need Samsung‘s latest flashy new TVs to take advantage.

The company’s new Micro RGB range was recently unveiled, ranging from 55-inches all the way to a staggering 130-inches.

Samsung says Micro RGB is “a monumental leap in scale and picture quality” using a whole new technology to give viewers “lifelike” colours.

It does this by adopting red, green, and blue LEDs that each emit light independently, which is different to standard LED-backlit TVs that tend to use white or blue LEDs as a backlight.

And one of the places where this upgrade will be even more noticeable later this year is on Amazon Prime Video.

The Micro RGB range supports HDR10+ Advanced, the next level of superior picture quality, backed by Samsung and a rival to Dolby Vision 2.

It’s the next step above HDR10+ which started in 2017.

Amazon Prime Video will be the first streamer to support it.

Experts are expecting a “TV upgrade effect” this year with the World Cup and the end of the typical 6-7-year replacement cycle.

So if you’re one of them and go for Samsung’s 2026 Micro RGB range you can expect to see a big difference to the picture quality on Prime Video.

“HDR10+ Advanced marks a transformative leap in streaming picture quality, and we’re thrilled to pioneer support for this new technology on Prime Video,” said BA Winston, VP of Technology at Prime Video.

“We will offer HDR10+ Advanced on select titles from Prime Video’s extensive catalog of award-winning programming, with plans to expand availability across our library in the future.”
