And Just Like That showrunner Michael Patrick King shared the news with a statement on HBO Max’s social media on Friday.
“And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the Sex And The City universe is coming to an end,” King wrote.
“While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That season three, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.
“Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.”
King said that he, along with SJP, waited to announce the news because they didn’t want to overshadow the season as it aired.
“It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years,” he wrote.
The show’s season and series finale will air on August 14.
The current season has drawn serious criticism, with some viewers upset over Aidan’s huge shift in character.
A former Sex and the City actor even told The U.S. Sun that it was the series’s “time to go.”
Meanwhile, others theorized that fan-favorite character Samantha Jones could still return and save the show.
Despite the lackluster reviews, the remaining devoted fans took to the comments of the post to share their heartbroken reactions to the shocking news.
“Mind you this is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me,” one Instagram user wrote.
Another said, “The solution was better writing and storylines …. NOT cancelation!”
