Apple launched its first product of the year last week: AirTag 2, which arrived five years after the original model. Here are three more new Apple products coming soon that have years-old prior models.

Apple Studio Display 2

Last update: March 2022

Mac displays are among Apple’s most rarely updated products. For example, the Pro Display XDR launched in 2019 and has not yet been upgraded.

The Apple Studio Display isn’t quite as old, but four years is still a long time.

Fortunately, the latest reporting indicates the Studio Display 2 could launch very soon—perhaps alongside forthcoming M5 Pro and M5 Max versions of the MacBook Pro.

New features are rumored to include:

  • A19 chip
  • ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate
  • HDR support

It’s highly likely that the new Studio Display will get an upgraded camera too—perhaps a Center Stage camera like is commonly available in Macs, iPads, and even the iPhone today.

HomePod mini 2

Last update: November 2020

Though initially expected last year, Apple is rumored to make a big new smart home push this year once the new AI-powered Siri finally launches.

Reporting indicates that Siri’s feature delays had a domino effect on new Apple Home products that would depend on the AI assistant. One of those delayed products is a new HomePod mini 2.

The first HomePod mini is over five years old, and it sounds like there’s a big upgrade coming with the new model.

Rumored new features include:

  • Upgraded S-class chip
  • Improved audio quality
  • Support for new Siri and Apple Intelligence
  • Second-gen Ultra Wideband chip
  • N1 wireless chip
  • New colors

HomePod mini 2 is currently expected to launch this spring, likely in March or April around iOS 26.4’s debut.

New Apple TV 4K

Last update: November 2022

Like the HomePod mini 2, a new Apple TV 4K was originally rumored to launch last year, but seems to have been a casualty of Siri’s AI feature delays.

It’s unclear exactly when the new Apple TV 4K will arrive, but a spring launch alongside the HomePod mini 2 and ‘HomePad’ seems the most likely window.

When it does arrive, the latest Apple TV is expected to include:

  • A17 Pro chip
  • Apple Intelligence and AI Siri support
  • N1 wireless chip
  • Dolby Vision 2 support

There’s also a wildcard feature that might be coming: a built-in camera. Reporting indicates Apple has tested a model with a camera, but it’s unclear whether that upgrade is indeed coming.

Are there any other rarely updated Apple products that you hope launch new models this year? Let us know in the comments.
