Apple’s revamped version of Siri may lean on Google to deliver the AI-smarts we’ve come to expect from smart assistants, according to a new insider report.

Apple insider Mark Gurman says Apple plans to use Google Gemini behind the scenes so Siri can plan tasks, summarize results, and handle general knowledge cleanly. It is apparently paying Google to create a custom Gemini model, which can run on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers to power Siri.

Apple was considering using Anthropic for the work, but Google reportedly offered Apple a better deal than the $1.5 billion per year offer on the table from the AI competitor.

This doesn’t mean that Siri will include Google services – it’ll just be powered by a Gemini model and still offer the types of AI services you’ve come to expect. Gurman says “there’s no guarantee users will embrace it, that it will work seamlessly, or that it can undo years of damage to the Siri brand” but we’ll just have to wait and see how it works out.

Hopefully it won’t be long before we see the new and improved Siri in action. We know the 7-inch Home Hub is on its way, so we should hopefully see it and the new Siri release sometime in the Soring, perhaps alongside the release of iOS 26.4.
