I believe Apple’s rise as the preferred device for IT teams comes from its focused approach to solving real problems first, then building the tools that make it easy for companies to connect their entire stack and have everything just work. While some companies in years past built their ecosystems around lock in and doing everything, Apple built its enterprise strategy around integration. The new collaboration between JumpCloud and Google Workspace is the latest reminder that the future of enterprise IT is not about competition. It is about cooperation for the customer, even when you compete at the same time.
About Apple @ Work: Bradley Chambers managed an enterprise IT network from 2009 to 2021. Through his experience deploying and managing firewalls, switches, a mobile device management system, enterprise grade Wi-Fi, 1000s of Macs, and 1000s of iPads, Bradley will highlight ways in which Apple IT managers deploy Apple devices, build networks to support them, train users, stories from the trenches of IT management, and ways Apple could improve its products for IT departments.

The announcement of the Work Transformation Set, which combines JumpCloud’s identity and device management platform with Google Workspace, is a strategic move for both companies. It shows that even in a world where companies compete fiercely in one area, they can still build together when it makes sense for the customer. In a previous generation, these companies, including Apple, would have tried to offer everything a customer needs and avoid partnerships.
The rise of the open enterprise stack
For years, IT teams have struggled with companies offering a half baked version of everything a company needs and then avoiding collaboration. I am all for both competition and cooperation.
Apple fits naturally into this model. Managed Apple Accounts, federated authentication, and Platform SSO make Apple devices easy to integrate into any identity provider. Instead of forcing IT teams into a closed loop, Apple’s ecosystem now works hand in hand with platforms like JumpCloud and Google Workspace. A Mac can be set up with the same credentials an employee uses for Gmail and automatically enrolled into management with zero friction. I love this. Even if Apple built out an SSO tool based on Managed Apple Accounts, they would still offer the deep integration with other companies as well. This is a win for customers.
Cooperation beats competition
The old model of enterprise IT was built on rivalry and licensing. You picked a vendor and lived inside its walls. That approach is no longer effective in 2025. The future belongs to open ecosystems where the best tools in each category connect without friction. Google and JumpCloud’s partnership shows how that future looks in practice.
It is also proof that Apple’s enterprise strategy is paying off. Even when Apple is not part of the headline, its devices are the endpoint of choice at work. That happens when a company focuses on making its technology work everywhere rather than trying to own every piece of the stack.
Wrapping up
The Work Transformation Set is a signal that modern IT is defined by cooperation. Google may compete with Apple in the hardware market. JumpCloud may overlap with other management platforms. They are offering a model that makes life easier to connect the tools a team might already be using in a way that helps customers.
Apple’s strength in the enterprise has always come from this kind of alignment. When companies that offer solutions in productivity, identity, and management all make Apple a first-class citizen, it is clear that cooperation has replaced competition as the real driver of innovation across the industry.
