Most camera-equipped bird feeders are the ornithological equivalent of a video doorbell, but the Birdfy Feeder Vista is more like one of those fancy 360-degree action cams.

Rather than capturing up-close-and-personal footage that makes any flying visitors to your garden look like a dodgy bunch of seed stealers, the Birdfy Feeder Vista has a back-to-back dual-lens camera on top that shoots 6K video at 30fps (or 2K at 120fps if you fancy a bit of slow-mo action) so you get a proper panoramic view of your feathered friends when they land for a bit of scran. It’ll also snap 14MP stills.

Around the base of the camera is a feeding platform for the birds to perch on, which itself is fed from a sealed container underneath by an air pump, so you don’t have to worry about the food going manky – a common problem with feeders that rely on good old-fashioned gravity to keep the portions topped up. The air-tight container holds 1.5 litres of food and you can use the Birdfy app to control how often and how much and it pushes up to the dining table.

It also uses weight rather than motion to trigger the camera so you won’t get a load of clips of nearby tree branches blowing in the wind, and with Birdfy’s AI-powered OrniSense tech to identify the birds that visit it should give Bill Oddie a run for his money when it comes to telling tits apart.

If there are specific species you’re looking to attract you can also attach accessories to hold water or different types of food, so if you want seagulls in your garden try a sausage roll.

There’s currently no news on how much the Birdfy Feeder Vista will cost, or when it’ll be available to buy, so for now you’ll just have to continue spying on pigeons with your video doorbell.
