Beta builds of the Blender 5.0 3D modeling software are now available ahead of the planned stable release in mid-November.
Today marks the first beta builds of Blender 5.0 and a shift by which Blender 5.0 is now focused just on bug-fixing and the code has been branched from main to “blender-v5.0-release”. Blender’s main Git repository is now working toward what will become Blender 5.1 next year.
Those interested in testing out Blender 5.0 beta can grab the latest daily builds via builder.blender.org.
Blender 5.0 is set to deliver a variety of animation enhancements, HDR and wide color gamut support on Linux when using Vulkan and Wayland, a human base mesh bundle has been contributed by the community for a realistic skeleton asset, larger buffers in Blend files, big endian support has been removed, curves drawing has been rewritten, support for LZO and LZMA has been dropped in favor of Zstd for point caches, various file format handling improvements, improved Vulkan support, and much more.
See the tentative release notes for more details on the Blender 5.0 changes. Blender 5.0 is aiming for its stable release around 11 November.
