Apple’s F1: The Movie, starring Brad Pitt, will likely hit the $500M revenue milestone for the final weekend in July, according to industry trade sources.

Both the new Superman remake from Warner Brothers and F1 will hit or exceed $500 million in box-office revenue by the time receipts are counted for July. CNBC projects that Superman, which has been out only two weeks, will squeak ahead of F1 with $502 million in global box office receipts, citing industry tracker Comscore.

F1 has achieved the highest gross ticket sales of any of Apple’s theatrical releases. It hit $400 million in mid-July, and shows no signs of slowing down.

The film has also far surpassed Apple’s previous cinematic efforts in terms of first-run income.

Ridley Scott’s epic Napoleon movie generated $221M during its theatrical run, while Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon tallied $158 million. Both films made further income from secondary sales to TV and foreign outlets.

F1 will continue to earn money after it leaves theatres as well, like other Apple films. Apple will likely make the movie available for premium on-demand video services, home rentals, foreign TV outlets, and other sources — and also debut on Apple TV+ at some point, probably before the end of the year.

The film’s success also means that Apple will likely recoup and even surpass the movie’s total budget and distribution costs. Together, those costs often double the official budget of a film like F1, which originally had a budget of over $200 million.

Apple is also said to be looking into the possibility of acquiring TV rights to live coverage of Formula One races to add to its Apple TV+ sports coverage, due in part to the enthusiasm of fans for the film.
