It’s only a matter of time until Disney+ and Hulu are combined into a single app. Until then, Disney brings you the ultra-popular Marvel and Star Wars franchises, while Hulu covers a more adult-oriented niche with tons of movies and shows from network partners.
Between the two services, they release a ton of content every week, so I’ll make it easy for you by picking three worthwhile new entries. September continues with popular TV shows and movies, including the first mature-rated Marvel animation ever, heavy metal carnage, and more. The full list of TV shows and movies coming to the streaming services is below.
This Week on Hulu and Disney+: PCMag’s Picks
Swiped (Hulu, Sept. 19)
Online dating has transformed the way people search for a soulmate, and the new biopic Swiped delves deep into one of the most responsible people: Whitney Wolfe Herd, who worked in marketing at Tinder before founding Bumble and launching the era of “swipe-to-match” connections. This is one of the most consequential tech stories of the last few decades, so it’s worth a look.

Into the Void: Life, Death and Heavy Metal (Hulu, Sept. 22)
The production team that created the disturbing Dark Side of the Ring docuseries about professional wrestling has a new project. Into the Void gives heavy metal music the same treatment, with interviews from the stars who saw it all. From the Satanic Panic around backwards lyrics inspiring murders to the wild life of Plasmatics frontwoman Wendy O. Williams and the death of Dimebag Darrell, this series will bang every head.

Marvel Zombies (Disney+, Sept. 24)
The latest animated series from the Marvel Cinematic Universe jets off to yet another alternate reality, this one where a mysterious contagion transforms the heroes and villains (and civilians) of the comic books into flesh-eating revenants. It’s the first TV-MA-rated series from Marvel Animation and features a massive voice cast pulled from the movies. The single season drops today, and it’s just four episodes.
