Large Spanish companies and firms in the technology sector are those that have acquired and implemented the most Digitalization technologies in 2025, in Spain: Cloud, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Cybersecurity and 5G Connectivityamong others. It is one of the main conclusions of the Study by the economic and business consulting firm Advice Strategic Consultants, which has carried out the most extensive and in-depth report on the state of the economic and business Digitalization of Spain in 2025.

Large companies, adopting Digitalization technologies, have a “carry-over effect” of 1 million SMEs and 33% of total employment in Spain. And they contribute to the construction of a more Sustainable economic model: Sustainability is one of the great beneficiaries of the Digital Transformation.

Spain occupies seventh place (7th place) in Digitalization in the Europe of 27 (DESI Index, EU27) and leads in Connectivity. The impact of Digitalization on economic growth is quantified in a contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) between 2024 and 2025 between 21% and 28%, depending on the analysis methodology used. Advice Strategic Consultants has chosen to use the two most serious methodologies recognized by all (Eurostat, World Bank, OECD, IMF and WEF): market research based on a quantitative survey in the universe of Spanish companies and analysis of meta data and secondary information sources, in accordance with the rigorous statistical criteria of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) and the Bank of Spain. In 2024 and 2025, 24% of GDP has to do with digital activities.

In Spain, there are more than 75,000 companies in the information and communication technologies (ICT) sectorand this sector contributes significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), representing approximately 24.2% in 2023 (direct + indirect and induced), according to data from Ametic, an association of technology companies together with DigitalES.

The turnover of the ICT sector exceeds 124,316 million euros, and its added value is 45,619 million euros according to the INE. The direct contribution of the Digital Technology Sector is 5.9%taking as a sole reference the added value of technology companies to GDP. The permeability of digital activities in economic and business activity represents 24% of GDP and includes electronic commerce, increases in productivity and business competitiveness resulting from Digitalization, digital services of Public Administration, Digitalization in Education and training, etc.

Among the large Spanish companies that are systemic to the country’s economy, there are ten that stand out for their contribution to business and economic digitalization, in 2025. Large Spanish companies are the ones that contribute the most to the advancement of business Digitalization, both due to the use they make of technologies and the “drag or tractor” effect they exert on SMEs and microenterprises. CaixaBank, El Corte Inglés, Telefónica, Inditex, Mercadona, Cellnex Telecom, Santander, Iberdrola, Meliá and Indra lead the business digitalization of Spainamong the 500 largest companies in Spain by turnover.

In addition, large Spanish companies specify their social commitment to digitalization that seeks to close the digital gap for SMEs and the self-employed. In this sense, the “La Caixa” Foundation stands out, which leads the work of closing the digital divide in Spain for SMEs, micro-businesses, the self-employed and the general population with digital training and education.

Among the most relevant data, it stands out that, in 2025, 11.3% of Spanish companies use Artificial Intelligence (versus 13.5% in the EU27)for the most part, large companies. And, for the first time, in 2025 and in this Study, a distinction is made between the implementation and use of two types of Artificial Intelligence (adoption rate of companies that incorporated AI): generative AI (18.1%) and predictive AI (14.6%). The first is used mainly by SMEs and the second by large companies.
