But Where Do The Monsters In Episode 7 Come From?

If you follow the series carefully Falloutyou already know that the seventh episode of season 2 is broadcast from January 28 on Prime Video. It begins the end of the season since it contains 8 chapters in total.

A few weeks ago, Ella Purnell, who plays the famous Lucy, warned us that “episodes four and five” would contain twists and turns: “I’ll stop there so as not to spoil the surprise, but… Yes, they are very surprising, shall we say.” Episode 4 was indeed a huge surprise since we saw an element previously never seen on screen in the series. This element is back in episode 7, in greater numbers, so we explain its existence to you.

Those who have already seen episode 4 have noticed that the initial scene and the very last scene of the episode mirror each other. In both, we see Howard Cooper facing a creature that seems to come from Hell because it has such a demonic appearance. Until now, few monsters had been seen in the series. It focuses more on ghouls, and the ugliness of human nature. It is therefore surprising for viewers to see a species of kaiju come to life here, both before the apocalypse and after.

These creatures are back in episode 7 during an intense and epic fight scene, involving Cooper and Maximus, back in New California Republic armor.

As of yet, the presence of these particular monsters has not been explained by the series, or even by the showrunners. We can therefore legitimately ask ourselves: what are they doing here? Fortunately, the games from which the production was inspired give us some answers.

What do the games say?

In the world of games Falloutthis monster is called a Flayer. This is one of the most fearsome creatures you can encounter as a player. The skinners were originally the result of experiments carried out by the military authorities before the war. They come from genetic manipulations combining several animal species, including the chameleon.

The goal was to create a robust predator capable of surviving alone in extreme environments. After the nuclear apocalypse, these creatures spiraled out of control and proliferated across the wastelands. They are associated with high levels of radiation, which is why Cooper/the Ghoul is worried about Peep Boy’s crackling sounds when he and Lucy arrive in Las Vegas. Besides their monstrous appearance, their howl immediately distinguishes them in the post-apocalyptic environment.

Their existence is introduced from the first games Falloutbut it is especially in Fallout 2 that their presence is growing, particularly in Southern California. Long considered rumors or local legends, the mind flayers are finally being identified as a very real threat. They mainly reside in irradiated areas like the desert and the surrounding areas of the town of Broken Hills.

They were then reintroduced into Fallout : New Vegaswhich explains their presence in the series. In the franchise, their role is not limited to that of classic enemies. They symbolize the horrors of contamination and the extreme consequences of nuclear war on biology. Their inclusion in episodes 4 and 7 of season 2 helps raise the stakes for our characters who will surely soon get their hands on Hank, Lucy’s father on the run.

It’s also a huge nod to fans of the franchise, which should remind them of memorable gameplay areas and intense battles against these creatures.
