On April 30, budding pirates will be able to sail the sea of thieves using their PS5. Sea of Thieves, a game historically exclusive to Microsoft platforms (Xbox and PC) will finally land 6 years later on PS5, Sony’s latest console. This means that the two direct competitors will ultimately shake hands in the interests of the players. Especially since many of them are already present in both ecosystems.
If this is your case, and you are already a player of Sea of Thieves on Xbox or PC, you may be wondering if your save will follow you from one platform to the other. It is true that cross-play does not necessarily mean cross-save. Rest assured immediately, it is possible to recover (almost) all your game data. The procedure is very simple and will be explained to you as soon as you launch the game for the first time on PS5.
First of all, you will need to make sure you purchase a copy of Sea of Thieves on this console. The time has not yet arrived when our purchases will count for all available platforms. Once downloaded, the game will ask you if you would like link your Microsoft account to your PlayStation Network account. You obviously have to accept to recover your main backup. You will then need to scan a QR code, then type the encrypted code that appears on the screen, and finally confirm. It’s already finished, everything is ready for you to resume your navigation on the high seas. Your in-game purchases, your progress and your money will follow you naturally.
Not everything follows
Know that you also have the possibility of not linking your PSN account to that of Microsoft. So you will have to start everything from the beginning. Even if you do it early in the game and decide you no longer like to link your saves, you can still uncorrelate them in the settings, under the PlayStation 5 tab.
The only “flaw” that had to be foreseen is that successes do not follow you from one platform to another. PlayStation has its own trophy system, so you will have to redo them on this console if you want to get Platinum, even if you already have all the achievements on Xbox/PC. This will take a considerable amount of time for completionists at heart, but it’s just a minor detail for players who only rely on the pure gaming experience.
