The iconic figure in SDG’s logo — the silhouette of a man with two pairs of legs and a mystical third eye — was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man. The original drawing, created in the 15th century, symbolizes the perfect harmony between art and science, the blend of intellect and aesthetics, and the endless curiosity that defines human potential.

The added elements in our version — the extra pair of legs and a third all-seeing eye — symbolize our forward-thinking nature, nomadic freedom, and constant drive for innovation. So it’s no coincidence that we celebrate Vitruvian Man Day on Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday, April 15th, which is also recognized globally as 🎨 World Art Day. It’s a day to honor creativity, curiosity, and the human spirit.

How the Vitruvian Man Tradition Begins at SDG

Vitruvian Man Day was officially added to the company´s Digital Nomad Calendar in 2023, along with other unique SDG holidays. Since then, it’s grown into an annual tradition that employees worldwide look forward to with excitement.

Now in its third year of celebration, 🌟Vitruvian Man Day is more than a day — it’s a week-long celebration of culture, innovation, and connection. Each year, teams across the globe put their creative spin on the festivities, making it a true reflection of SDG’s diverse and global community.

How We Celebrate: Company Traditions and Activities

Vitruvian Man Day at SDG is all about celebrating creativity, which is reflected in our week-long festivities. There’s something for everyone, no matter if you’re a fan of art, a lover of learning, or just here for the good vibes and great food.

🎭 Some of our favorite traditions include:

  • Local art-inspired parties that mix culture and fun

  • Museum visits and guided tours that feed our curiosity

  • Art lectures that dive into the minds of great masters like Da Vinci and Bosch

  • Creative workshops, from resin art to candle making

  • Catered brunches and dinners at local gems, where teams reconnect and celebrate together

And of course, the launch of our special Vitruvian Day merch collection — featuring stylish travel organizers and other nomad-friendly goodies exclusively available at the Taco Shop — our internal corporate merch shop.

These celebrations bring the SDG community together, fostering a shared sense of inspiration and pride in who we are and what we stand for.

🌏 Where We Celebrate? Spoiler: all around the Globe!

From the heart of Europe and around the globe, SDG employees brought the Vitruvian Man Day spirit to life in their creative ways. Here’s a peek at how this year’s celebration unfolded across key SDG locations:

  • Batumi, Georgia: 🏙️ The local team kicked off the week with a Leonardo da Vinci-themed lecture, breakfast at the stylish Kultura café, and an inspiring creative workshop (participants chose between epoxy resin art and candle making).

  • Belgrade, Serbia: Our engineers explored the city through a unique lens with a “Belgrade through the eyes of an engineer” tour, followed by a cozy dinner at the artistic Plato café.

  • Cyprus: Art met relaxation in a painting masterclass with catering, giving the team a chance to unwind and create.

  • Lisbon, Portugal: A thoughtfully curated guided museum tour sparked fresh inspiration and brought colleagues together around shared passions.

  • Tbilisi, Georgia: A deep dive into the fantastical world of Hieronymus Bosch set the tone for the day, followed by a charming brunch with snacks and wine.

  • Poland: Team members took in cutting-edge creativity at a new contemporary art museum, then gathered for a stylish dinner at a cozy Italian restaurant.

    • Ubud, Bali: SDGangers crafted silver jewelry by hand before sharing a delicious dinner together.

    • Phuket, Thailand: The team spirit flourished during a therapeutic mandala-making class at the Mandala Art Therapy & Reiki Center.

Each celebration was united by a common thread: a love for learning, creating, and connecting — the cornerstones of SDG culture.

  • At its heart, Vitruvian Man Day is a celebration of the values that drive SDG forward: curiosity, creativity, innovation, and a deep appreciation for the world around us. It reminds us that behind every line of code, every product decision, and every global meeting, there’s a human spirit striving for balance, beauty, and brilliance.
