Lenovo and FIFA announced a series of joint technology solutions at Lenovo’s Tech World event during CES 2026, aiming to deliver an AI-powered FIFA World Cup at the 2026 tournament. Under the partnership, digital avatars will be integrated into refereeing technologies and match broadcasts at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Lenovo and FIFA are using 3D assets and generative AI to create three-dimensional avatars of participating players, a move intended to improve the efficiency and accuracy of FIFA’s refereeing decision-making processes.

The avatars replicate each player’s individual physical attributes, including height, and will be featured in 3D animations used during match replays — particularly for offside decisions — providing clearer visual context for fans watching both at home and inside stadiums. “We are working with FIFA to develop a next generation of AI-driven 3D digital avatars, enabling the world’s greatest players to be represented as realistically and accurately as possible,” Lenovo said.
