Changan Automobile said on Thursday it is teaming up with CATL to introduce sodium-ion battery technology and plans to launch multiple passenger vehicles featuring the new batteries within 2026. CATL said its sodium-ion cells have an energy density of 175 Wh/kg, allowing pure electric vehicles to travel more than 400 km on a single charge, with potential upgrades to 600 km. Range-extended hybrid models are expected to exceed 400 km. CATL also said it will deploy 3,000 battery swap stations across more than 140 cities, aiming to build a dual sodium-lithium battery technology ecosystem. [Technode Reporting]
