Apple TV+ has dropped the first trailer for “Chief of War,” Jason Momoa’s historic Hawaiian epic debuting August 1.

Written, starring, and executive produced by Jason Momoa, “Chief of War” is a historical drama based on true events. The first two episodes of the nine-episode series will debut on Friday, August 1, with new episodes every Friday through September 19.

“Chief of War,” described as a passion project from creators Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, follows the story of Ka’iana, a Native Hawaiian warrior played by Momoa. Set in the late 18th century, the series traces his efforts to unite the Hawaiian islands ahead of Western colonization.

The series stars predominantly Polynesian actors, with Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Cliff Curtis, Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikaleo, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka, Te Kohe Tuhaka and Benjamin Hoetjes filling out the cast.

Momoa previously starred in the Apple TV+ hit “See.” The series wrapped its third and final season in August 2022.
