A senior official from China’s Ministry of Public Security warned on Wednesday that the agency will bring more enforcement actions against automakers in cases involving assisted driving functions, the latest in a series of moves by Beijing to contain what it views as disorderly competition in the country’s auto market. China will refine its road traffic safety laws to ensure people have an awareness of bearing legal responsibility when using advanced driver assistance systems from Level 0 to Level 2, Wang Qiang, the director of the Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, told a press conference. The agency will also work with China’s industry ministry to prohibit automakers from exaggerating their assisted driving functions in advertisements, Wang added. Last month, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and two other government bodies said they will enhance scrutiny over vehicle safety and impose penalties on the makers of any car models found to be noncompliant with national standards.
