China’s Xpeng Motors on Wednesday started pre-sales of its redesigned P7 sports sedan, which gets a sharp-looking refresh and features technologies powered by its in-house developed chips, in the company’s latest move to upscale and improve profitability. The all-new P7 features low-slung design and a wide body with a height of 1,407 millimeters, slightly lower than Porsche’s Panamera, as well as a width of 1,970 mm, which helps improve handling and stability. The five-meter-long electric sedan will have three variants, providing a driving range of 702-820 km (436-510 miles) on a single charge. All the variants will incorporate three Xpeng Turing computer chips which Xpeng claims will together deliver 2,200 trillion operations per second (TOPS). The P7 will go on sale later this month, following the launch of its G7 crossover last month. The loss-making electric vehicle maker is scheduled to roll out its first hybrid EV and achieve profitability in the final quarter of this year. [TechNode reporting, Xpeng release,in Chinese]
