In theory, everything is simple. After taking a photo with her smartphone, it goes to the cloud and immediately ends up on photos.google.com. Are you adding an image from your computer? It should appear in the Android or iOS app without having to lift a finger. Except that this almost magical synchronization has seized up.
Memories stuck in the cloud
More and more users explain that images imported via a browser (Chrome on Mac or PC, for example) are clearly visible on the web version of Google Photos… but completely absent from the mobile application. On a smartphone, the library seems frozen, as if the cloud had decided to have a separate room.
For some, the difference between the web gallery and the mobile gallery is counted in hundreds, even thousands of photos. On their smartphone, only images stored locally are displayed, while content hosted online remains invisible in the main timeline. The problem appeared in recent days, according to reports posted on Reddit and Google’s support forums. Not all accounts are affected, but reports are piling up.
And traditional solutions don’t seem to help. Clear the cache, erase the data, uninstall then reinstall the application… In several cases, these manipulations even made the situation worse. After reinstallation, some find themselves faced with a desperately empty gallery or a synchronization that runs endlessly. Recent versions of the app, including updates 7.62 and 7.63 on Android and iOS, seem particularly affected.
As if that wasn’t enough, the bug doesn’t stop at simple photos. Users report that the face grouping function has deactivated itself, erasing patiently made identifications in the process. You must then reactivate the option and start sorting again manually. A job that many would have done well without. Albums created from the web no longer always sync to mobile. Sharing with a partner, another pillar of the service, would also experience some hiccups.
Google, for its part, remains discreet. No official press release yet. On the forums, a senior product expert confirmed that the Google Photos team had been notified and the matter had been passed to engineers. However, he specifies that “ there is no specific timetable » for the release of a fix. In the meantime, affected users are encouraged to send feedback through the app to alert Google.
