Clues for Apple's iPhone 17 Event Point to More Than Thin Phones

The iPhone lineup will forever change on Sept. 9, as Apple’s big “Awe Dropping” iPhone 17 event might reveal an ultra-thin model, nicknamed by many as “iPhone Air.”

Months of leaks, reports and rumors have analysts and pundits not only expecting a new, thinner iPhone in the 10 a.m. PT live-streamed presentation, but also new models of the Apple Watch Series 11 and AirPods Pro 3. Apple may have hidden clues in the art of the announcement. For this week’s episode of One More Thing, embedded above, I run through the reports for what we’re expecting (along with what we’re not expecting yet).

The event teaser paints the Apple logo in colors reminiscent of a thermal imaging camera. Hues of cool blue and warm deep orange swirl within the logo — and it just so happens that those same blues and oranges are also rumored to be the color options for the iPhone 17 lineup.

The event icon holds an interactive easter egg. When visiting Apple.com, you can use your finger or a mouse pointer to press on the Apple icon and drag to see a warmer spot move around. Could Apple be hinting at a new feature related to temperature?

Or perhaps the tease just points at how hot that Apple demo room will get after the keynote, as breathless reporters swarm over the new designs of this possibly thinner iPhone. (Well, thinner if you don’t count the camera bump.)
