ESPN surveyed league executives, coaches, and scouts to help compile a top 10 ranking of quarterbacks in the NFL.
After completing the poll, ESPN rounded out a top 10 that saw Mahomes narrowly sitting at the top of the list.
He was ranked as low as No. 4 thanks to his performance in the 2024 season.
Mahomes posted career lows with 3,928 yards and 26 touchdowns across the season.
However, many considered the play around Mahomes to contribute to his statistical decline.
“OL in decline, particularly at tackle, WR group completely cleaned out by injury, [Travis] Kelce not near the same player,” a NFL coordinator told ESPN.
“I thought he had more command of time/score/situation and better fundamentals from within the pocket than ever.
“He’s a one-man army. And no NFL coach wants to deal with him.
“Complete dawg. No one like him. Maybe [Joe] Burrow, but Burrow isn’t as dangerous as a player.”
Mahomes leads the NFL in most passing categories since his first year as a starter in 2018.
However, on scout said that the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback “probably doesn’t have the same fear factor” as he used to.
One executive also shared that he voted Mahomes fourth because of the step back he took in the last few years.
“Other guys played great,” the executive said.
“He took a little step back based off the last few seasons. I don’t expect it to last.”
While Mahomes is getting some warnings from NFL personnel, he is still the leagues No. 1 QB and Chiefs fans flocked to social media to celebrate his accomplishment.
