We didn’t expect this: the response to our online survey about video conferencing software was overwhelming. Over 8,000 heise readers took part (maybe you too?). You have given us valuable insight into your experiences with communication tools.

- Through the survey, many readers passed on article ideas as well as critical feedback on the methodology.
The survey is not representative. It was part of our article “Teams alternatives: The European market offers these video conferencing tools”. A number of participants complained in text responses that although they would like to escape the influence of US tech companies, they cannot choose their own work tools at work. Microsoft Teams is the undisputed number one in the results: almost three quarters of the survey participants use this software. The following places are also occupied by US services, but behind them there is a wealth of alternatives, often from Europe.

In this article we summarize the results of our survey, classify them and reflect on our questions. We have not always succeeded in the latter, as critical comments from participants show. We also provide an outlook on further c’t articles about (European) video conferencing software.
