c’t webinar: Reduce energy costs with an electric car
SHARE

An electric car sits unused on the parking space most of the time. This is exactly what makes it an interesting component for energy management in the home. With its large battery, it can absorb electricity at low market prices, store excess solar power and even support the power grid in the future. The webinar “Optimize costs with the electric car – charge cleverly, save sustainably” shows which options are already practical today and which ones are economically worthwhile.

Speaker Clemens Gleich explains how electric vehicles can be sensibly integrated into the domestic energy system. He explains when it is worthwhile to charge excess solar power directly into the vehicle, how dynamic electricity tariffs can reduce electricity costs and what advantages reduced network fees offer in accordance with Section 14a EnWG. It’s also about virtual power plants and the current status of bidirectional charging (vehicle-to-grid, V2G).

Technology and cost-effectiveness in view

Not every technically possible solution is also economically viable. The webinar classifies the different concepts and shows which approaches have proven successful in practice. The speaker takes both owners and tenants into account, as many options do not require you to own a property.

One focus is on automatic surplus charging with photovoltaics. The participants find out what prerequisites are necessary for this, whether a balcony power plant is sufficient and what energy losses occur when using a home storage system. Dynamic electricity tariffs are also on the program. The webinar explains pricing on the electricity market, the importance of intelligent measuring systems (smart meters) and shows how charging processes can be automatically postponed to favorable time windows.

In addition, Clemens Gleich explains the regulations of Section 14a EnWG for controllable consumption devices such as wallboxes and presents the different relief models. Finally, he examines the marketing of balancing energy as well as the current possibilities and limitations of vehicle-to-grid.

For beginners and experienced e-car drivers

The webinar is aimed at everyone who already uses an electric car or is planning to purchase one. No prior technical knowledge is required.
