“What emerging technologies are changing the way chemicals are measured, stored, or transported”

Here is what 3 thought leaders had to say.

The Silent Guardians of Chemical Storage

As Head of Production & Logistics at Berthold, the most exciting change I see is the rise of smart, real-time sensors in chemical storage and transport. I remember the days when we’d rely on periodic manual checks and hope everything stayed within spec — now, sensors can continuously track temperature, pressure, and even detect tiny leaks before they become a problem. It feels like having an extra set of eyes and ears watching over every tank and pipeline, even at 3 a.m. This not only keeps people safe but also saves product and prevents costly downtime. For me, it’s peace of mind in data form.

Smart Technologies Revolutionize Chemical Handling Process

Some very interesting new technologies in biotechnology and advanced chemical sciences are really changing how we handle chemicals. For measurement, tiny biosensors and real-time spectroscopy are allowing for the quick and accurate in-situ analysis of chemical composition without needing to send samples to a laboratory. For storage, smart materials, such specialized polymers, have the ability to react to their environment—maintaining the stability and safety of chemicals by responding to changes such as temperature or humidity. On transport, smart containers with IoT sensors are becoming a game-changer. They monitor conditions such as temperature and pressure in real time, allowing companies to ensure that the chemicals remain intact and safe from the time they leave the factory to the moment they arrive at their respective destinations. Together, these technologies made chemical handling safer, more productive, and easier to control at every step.

Smart Tech is Making Pool Chemical Handling Safer and Easier

One thing I’m really impressed with is smart chemical monitoring systems that measure pH and chlorine levels in real time and send alerts to my phone. It takes away the “dip and pray” approach and gives me confidence that my customers’ pools are balanced before I even get there.

On the storage side, I like the newer sealed cartridge systems — no more strong chemical smell lingering on my hands at the end of the day. And for transport, lightweight, refillable containers are becoming more common, which saves my back and feels like a small win for the environment. It’s nice to see tech making this part of the job cleaner, safer, and a little easier on all of us.
