GAMERS are in for a shock as more than £200 worth of blockbuster titles are about to vanish from millions of PlayStations in just weeks.

The cull comes as part of Sony’s latest shake-up to its PlayStation Plus catalogue, which means several fan-favourite games will disappear at the end of the month.

Once removed, players will lose access even if they’ve already downloaded them – unless they buy the titles outright.

Seven titles are set to vanish, including big hitters that many fans still have in their backlog.

While it’s bad news for those who’ve been putting them off, Sony has promised a fresh batch of games to soften the blow – but once these are gone, they’re gone for good.

Games disappearing

Here’s how it stands right now: all of the following titles will officially disappear by mid-September 2025, once Sony rolls out the new Extra and Premium catalogue.

  • The Plucky Squire
  • UFC 5
  • Road 96
  • Pistol Whip
  • Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir
  • FIST: Forged In Shadow Torch
  • Dragon’s Crown Pro

That means players have just a few weeks left to wrap up their progress or grab a last playthrough before they vanish for good.

Fans should keep an eye on the Last Chance to Play tab too, as more surprise exits could still be added.

Sony has also confirmed that August’s new lineup is already trickling out in Asia, the UK, Europe and the U.S.

New games dropping

Gamers are in for a real treat this month as Sony has dropped a monster line-up on PS Plus – and it’s worth every penny.

Nine new titles are being added to the Game Catalogue for Extra and Premium members.

All the goodies will be live to play from today, Tuesday August 19.

And it’s not just filler – Mortal Kombat 1 and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered headline the fresh batch, with indie gem Sword of the Sea also landing on launch day.

Here are all the PS Plus August 2025 Game Catalogue games:

  • Mortal Kombat 1 (PS5)
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (PS5, PS4)
  • Sword of the Sea (PS5)
  • Earth Defense Force 6 (PS5, PS4)
  • Unicorn Overlord (PS5, PS4)
  • Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key (PS5, PS4)
  • Indika (PS5)
  • Harold Halibut (PS5)
  • Coral Island (PS5)
  • Resident Evil 2 (PS5, PS4, only for PS Plus Premium users)
  • Resident Evil 3 (PS5, PS4, only for PS Plus Premium users)

With so many fresh additions across genres, from fighters and JRPGs to horror legends and indie hits, August 2025 is shaping up to be one of the strongest PS Plus months in years.

Bonus game trail

And that’s not all – PS Plus Premium users are getting an extra bonus on Tuesday August 19.

Subscribers can sink their teeth into a brand-new Game Trial for none other than Hideo Kojima’s critically acclaimed sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

PS5 players will be able to test-drive up to five hours of gameplay.

And the best bit?

If you decide to buy the game afterwards, all your progress and trophies carry over.

PlayStation releases – what’s the history?

Here’s what you need to know…

  • The original PlayStation launched in Europe in 1995
  • This was followed by the PlayStation 2 in the year 2000
  • The PlayStation 3 arrived over half a decade later, in 2006
  • Then gamers had to wait a further seven years for 2013’s PS4 launch
  • Sony released the PS5 in November 2020
