Gemini Spark: Google is now bringing the AI agent to the Mac
SHARE

In mid-April 2026, Google introduced a native Gemini app for Macs. Since then, the macOS app has been given some new functions. Now Google is integrating its agentic AI assistant Gemini Spark there.

Spark does time-consuming work

Spark is intended to help users with time-consuming tasks and complete them automatically, as Google reports. As an example, the Gemini provider cites sorting a large number of files into folders, which could take several hours by hand.

Spark can also be connected to Google Workspace. This opens up the possibility of creating a budget table based on invoices stored on the computer. The regular update could then be initiated according to a specially created schedule.

Connect AI assistant to apps

In the future, Gemini Spark will also connect with other apps such as Google Tasks, Canva, Dropbox or Opentable. Users can use this to design a flyer or reserve a table. The corresponding connections will be introduced in the macOS app in the coming weeks.

Support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP) should also enable experienced users to connect preferred apps with Spark to create a tailor-made assistant. Users should be given the opportunity to protect certain content from access by Gemini Spark.

Spark responds to events in real time

Meanwhile, the option to have the AI assistant react to certain events in real time is interesting, such as sending a detailed financial report when a share reaches a certain value. Spark also keeps an eye on blogs, news sites, sporting events or social media on command.

In the future, Spark will also be able to be controlled remotely from a correspondingly activated smartphone. Users can assign the agentic AI assistant a multi-step task, which it then carries out on the Mac.

Google’s new AI search backfires

However, Gemini Spark remains limited to the USA. Anyone who wants to use the AI assistant must be at least 18 years old and have a Google AI Ultra subscription. It is not yet known whether and when Spark will come to Germany.
