Artificial intelligence is a thorn in the side of many filmmakers, especially in Hollywood. It was only in March 2026 that an AI film that had won at a festival and was therefore supposed to end up in the cinema was removed from the program. And the Academy is also rather critical of the technology and has adjusted the rules for awarding an Oscar when AI is involved. Despite all the rejection, there are also Hollywood big names who are open to AI.
Martin Scorsese helps Black Forest Labs
Those responsible at Black Forest Labs show this in a post on their blog. Because they were able to win the famous director Martin Scorsese for their project. Scorsese has already received 16 Oscar nominations and won Best Director for Departed – Among enemies taken home. Most recently he was for the film Killers of the Flower Moon with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role nominated for best director.
The collaboration between Black Forest Labs and Scorsese is intended to make the German AI startup’s tool more interesting for filmmakers. Scorsese says: “There’s always been the problem of how to communicate what you see in your head to the cast and crew. There are just things you have to see and feel.”

The AI model Flux from Black Forest Labs should now help with this. In a short video accompanying the announcement, Scorsese uses Flux to generate a scene for a storyboard that he has already imagined in his head. He cites the famous tracking scene as another example of the advantages of AI Goodfellasin which the characters Henry and Karen are followed by the camera as they go to a nightclub. The sequence is just over three minutes long and was shot without cuts. According to Scorsese, the planning, including timing and lighting, was only physically possible for each individual section of the scene and was therefore extremely time-consuming.
Such a recording would now be much easier with the tools from Black Forest Labs because many settings could be designed and tried out in advance. The advantage, according to Scorsese: “In the pre-production phase, time costs money. And this allows us to move faster without sacrificing quality or craftsmanship.” Black Forest Labs doesn’t want to replace filmmakers, but to support them. They add: “We want Flux to bring ideas to life while keeping human taste, values and agency at the heart of it all.”
