GNOME 48 is officially out as the newest stable release for this open-source desktop that will be powering the likes of Fedora Workstation 42 and Ubuntu 25.04.
GNOME 48 is a super exciting release with initial HDR support, many other Wayland enhancements and new protocol support, the new Adwaita fonts by default, dynamic triple buffering support for Mutter, grouping notifications by app within the GNOME Shell, a new audio player default, digital well being / screen time and health break features, and many other refinements. GNOME 48 is one of the largest and most significant GNOME desktop updates in quite a while with so many great features across the board.
