Google Gemini AI is coming to Samsung and Sony earbuds

Google Gemini AI is coming to earphones made by Samsung and Sony, it has emerged, as the Google Assistant era winds down.

Last year’s Pixel Buds Pro 2 were the first to be built for Google Gemini and now Google is spreading the love to devices from other manufacturers.

In a press release on May 14, Samsung revealed the Galaxy Buds 3 series will get the advanced AI assistant in a forthcoming update.

As Google stated during its Android Show yesterday, it’ll be easier to perform hands-free tasks without disturbing your current activity on the Galaxy Buds as well as Galaxy Watch models that are also getting Gemini as part of Wear OS 6.

For the Galaxy Buds, Google says you’ll be able to access information from your compatible Galaxy phone, with voice or pinch and hold controls.

Samsung says: “So when you are lacing up your running shoes before a jog, just ask Gemini, “What’s the weather for my run today?” without having to reach for your phone.”

When it comes to the Galaxy Watch, the Samsung blog said: “If you’re on the treadmill at the gym, for instance, you’ll be able to ask Gemini to “Remember I’m using locker 43 today.”

Samsung goes on to add: “When you receive an important email while your hands are tied up carrying groceries, just ask Gemini to “Summarise my last email” for a quick overview. Gemini handles these requests across your apps, letting you quickly glance at the response and get right back to what you’re doing.”

In a blog post yesterday, Google also confirmed Sony’s earbuds are going to get the Gemini integration too, but didn’t specify which product or when it’ll happen.

Google added: “With Gemini coming to all these new devices, plus earbuds from Sony and Samsung, we’re bringing you personalised, powerful and proactive help—wherever you are, on whatever Android device you’re using.”

Google is positioning Gemini as the go-to assistant for manufacturers in the Android ecosystem as it begins to take the lead in the AI arms race. Gemini might even be a built-in option on the iPhone this year, with Google hinting a deal is in the works to make the tool an option in iOS 19 alongside ChatGPT.
