Google is replacing its Preferred Care and Fi Device Protection plans in the US with a new Pixel Care+ program.

The program offers “a higher level of coverage, service and peace of mind for Google hardware owners” and is meant to make phone repairs easier and more intuitive, Google says.

At launch, Pixel Care+ will offer monthly and two-year plans for various Pixel phones, watches, Fitbits, and tablets. Benefits include unlimited claims on accidental damage, extended warranty claims, and mechanical damage, free screen and battery repairs, free post-warranty malfunction repairs, priority support from Pixel experts, self-service claims through Google Store, and next-day shipping.

There’s also a Pixel Care+ with Loss and Theft add-on that covers your device in case it gets lost or stolen. You can file two claims in 12 months. It’s available everywhere in the US except New York.

The difference between the two plans isn’t much. For the recently launched Pixel 10, the Pixel Care+ plan costs $9 per month, and the Pixel Care+ with Loss and Theft plan costs $10 per month. The full list of eligible devices and their coverage costs is below. (Note: The up-front charge here covers the device for two years.)

Pixel customers have long complained about Google’s poor post-sale services. At one point, it didn’t even have a program to repair the broken screen of a Pixel Watch, forcing customers to consider third-party repair or replacement. That hopefully ends with Pixel Care+.

The program is live now, and it can be added to new devices within 60 days of purchase via the Google Store or the My Pixel app. The same two platforms can also be used to file a claim.

Google says existing subscribers of Preferred Care and Fi Device Protection will be migrated to Pixel Care+ in the coming months.
