Introduction

Positioned squarely in Hisense’s 2025 premium Mini LED range, the U7Q Pro nestles just below the brand’s flagship U8Q model, yet pointedly above its standard U7Q sibling.

Hisense has pulled out all the stops for this one. Fronted by an impressive Mini LED Pro backlighting, with Dolby Vision IQ, and lightning fast refresh rates, this Hisense is ready to trade blows with the best that Samsung, Sony, and LG have to offer…

Price

Hisense offers the U7Q Pro in a wide selection of screen sizes. There’s the 55-, 65-, 75-, 85- and 100-inch. You’ll find them priced at £1,499, £1,799, £2,099, £2,999 and £4,799 respectively. I’ve tested the 65-inch model.

In Australia, the 65-inch Hisense 65U7QAU (the regional equivalent of the 65U7Q Pro) sells for AUD$1,795. The 65-inch Hisense 65U7Q Pro TV currently doesn’t have a retail listing in the US, so watch that space.

Design

  • Generic design
  • Solar Remote control
  • Ultra thin bezel

Viewed from the front, the U7Q Pro is all screen: a barely-there bezel wraps the glass with just enough gloss to look premium. Eyed from the side and you’ll find its 75mm deep silhouette betrays all that backlight tech tucked inside.

The TV rests on two centrally positioned feet that include built-in cable management, giving the set a tidy, if generic aesthetic.

As for the remote? It’s solar-powered (so no need for batteries), nicely balanced, and sensibly laid out. App shortcuts comprise Disney Plus, YouTube, Prime Video, Netflix, Freely and Hisense’s own FAST channel hub.

Connectivity

  • Four HDMI v2.1 inputs
  • Freely TV over Wi-Fi
  • Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth

Connectivity is first rate. There are four HDMI 2.1 inputs (one of which is eARC enabled), plus a digital optical audio output, dual USB ports, Ethernet for networking, a Common Interface slot and terrestrial and satellite tuners.

All four HDMI inputs are high frame rate compatible, up to 165Hz, with ALLM (Auto Low-Latency Mode), and AMD FreeSync built in. There are also mini jacks for legacy AV gear and headphones.

There’s provision for Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit, with screen sharing and casting from Android and iOS devices.

User Experience

  • VIDAA U9 smart TV platform
  • FIFA Club World 2025 app
  • Audio Only mode

Hisense’s VIDAA smart TV platform continues to mature, and on this TV it’s surprisingly fluid. Boot-up is fast, navigation snappy, and everything feels focused around content rather than menus.

There’s deep integration with UK catch-up services via Freely, which if you haven’t seen it up close, looks much like a polished take on Freeview Play. It gives UK viewers the freedom to enjoy public service broadcasting without having to rely on a terrestrial aerial; all you need is Wi-Fi to connect.

In addition to curated content from live channels, the home page features a rail of popular streaming apps, and assorted content from services such as Prime Video, ITVX , Channel 4 and so on; I like the content forward approach and appreciate that it’s quick to navigate.

As befits Hisense’s FIFA sponsorship, there is also a dedicated FIFA Club World 2025 app. Additional themes include kids content, and streaming games.

There’s also an Audio Only mode, should you wish to use the TV primarily as a music playback device. I’m not sure I ever would, but it’s a good option to have.

Features

  • Mini-LED Pro backlight
  • Game Mode Pro
  • Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive

It’s difficult not to be impressed by the depth of the Hisense U7Q Pro’s feature set. Top billing must go to the Mini LED Pro backlight system, working in tandem with Quantum Dot colour technology, and full-array local dimming, to deliver exceptional brightness and colour richness.

The set supports both Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive, meaning it can dynamically optimise HDR performance based on both content and the ambient light in your viewing room. Crunching data behind the glass is Hisense’s Hi-View Engine Pro, a powerful image processor with AI-backed upscaling and dynamic tone mapping.

Gaming

  • Game Bar
  • Universal High Frame Rate support
  • AMD FreeSync Premium Pro

Gamers will find lots to like, thanks to Game Mode Pro, which unlocks 165Hz refresh rates at 4K, with support for ALLM, VRR, and FreeSync Premium Pro across all HDMI inputs. A dedicated Game Bar interface allows quick adjustments without diving into menus.

The Game Mode is fast and fluid, delivering low latency (I measured it at just 13.1ms, for 1080p at 60Hz) and sublime motion clarity.

Overwatch played at 4K/120Hz feels buttery smooth; it is as if I was skating on ice, albeit with some heavy cartoonish weaponry in hand.

Picture Quality

  • Top tier HDR brightness
  • Fine screen uniformity
  • Outstanding colour vibrancy

The 65U7Q Pro is a spectacularly bright TV. I measured peak HDR brightness at 2020 nits (using a standard 10% window), a figure that puts it in rarified company. For context, that’s a brighter peak white than many highly regarded OLEDs, and rivals some of the best Mini LED sets on the market.

The set has both a high average brightness, and the ability to present dramatic specular highlights, ideal for depicting everything from fireworks to street lamps, visual effects and so on.

Of course HDR, isn’t just about peak brightness. It’s also about shadow detail and near blacks. The Hisense puts in a decent show there too, but it can’t match the subtleties you get from OLED in this regard.

In Dolby Vision, Chinese action fantasy The Great Wall (Netflix) provides a spectacular showcase for its wideband colour. The bright hues of the various warrior classes, be they red, purple or black, are vividly depicted.

Black levels are impressive, even when viewed in a room with high ambient light. There’s no obvious graying of the picture, and those specular HDR highlights zing from the picture; Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro keeps contrast in check, scene to scene.

Scenes of deep space and verdant jungles, which open Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, are similarly cinematic and engulfing. This is a fun screen to watch.

Core picture presets comprise Standard, Enhanced ACR, Filmmaker Mode, Cinema, Energy saving, Dynamic and Sports, but these change contextually, for example when watching HDR programmes.

Modes which crop up depending on content, include HDR Sports, IMAX cinema, HDR Cinema, and HDR energy saving. Invariably, Standard proves to be the most consistent with a wide variety of content, even if it does flag up as the ‘Eco’ option.

In a bright room, the set’s semi anti-reflective screen holds up well, although it’s not as perfectly matte as Samsung’s Glare Free models.

Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive allow the TV to adjust tone mapping based on ambient lighting. Evening viewing remains crisp and punchy, but come daytime, you won’t be squinting at murky shadows or low-contrast scenes. Skin tones appear natural and expressive. Motion handling is another strength. Fast-moving content – be it sports or an action sequence – appear largely free from distracting artefacts. When watching movies, I preferred the Film setting to avoid the Soap Opera effect.

Upscaling

  • Hi-View AI Engine PRO
  • Pixel dense upscaling of HD

There’s nothing magical going on here. However, there’s nothing ruinous either. With everyday HD content, the Hi-View AI Engine PRO works subtly, avoiding any over-sharpening artefacts.

Back watching Lost, in 1080p, skin tones remain believable, textures natural and edges largely free from jaggies.

Sound Quality

  • Dolby Atmos enabled
  • 2.1.2 speaker configuration

The built-in 2.1.2 system of the U7Q Pro can be considered a cut above average. The rear-mounted woofer delivers solid mid-bass extension, and those side-firing drivers help broaden the soundstage.

Dialogue is crisp and clear, even in complex sound mixes, while explosions have weight and rumble, thanks to the built-in rear woofer.

The aforementioned Transformers epic has an impressive Dolby Atmos soundtrack (Netflix) and the U7Q Pro makes fine use of the sound mix. Robotic clanks, animalistic growls and explosive confrontations are all impressively conveyed, with the soundstage reaching beyond the confines of that ultra thin bezel.

For casual users, this could be a rare case where the internal speakers of a TV are ‘good enough’ for regular viewing, including movies. But if you do want to pair it with a dedicated soundbar or AVR system, eARC support on HDMI 2.1 means Dolby Atmos audio can be passed straight through to your AV receiver or soundbar.

But there is a caveat.

When the woofer drops to 50Hz, cabinet rattle becomes noticeable at high volumes. Some may want to pair this set with a good soundbar for a cleaner low-end.

Should you buy it?

Boasting an outstanding HDR performance, coupled with a wide colour gamut, this flatscreen is all about eye candy. Add comprehensive HDMI 2.1 connectivity with support for high frame rate gaming, and there’s no denying that it’s well equipped for film fans and gamers.

Less beauty, more function

The U7Q PRO isn’t going to win over the interior design crowd. That Mini LED backlight with local dimming adds depth, while the cabinet itself is prone to rattle when the woofer is put under duress. True home cinephiles are still likely to favour OLED, with its superior near-black performance.

Final Thoughts

Hisense is firing on all cylinders with the U7Q Pro. It’s a highly polished Mini LED TV, capable of spectacular imagery, and boasting an outstanding feature set. It does it all, and gets an awful lot right, probably for less than you’d expect.

If you’re in the market for a TV that excels in bright rooms, offers responsive gaming, and has a solid streaming smart platform, the U7Q Pro is a deserved front runner.

FAQs

Do I need an aerial for Freely to work?

No. Freely uses your Wi-Fi connection to deliver public service broadcasting over broadband, but we recommend a traditional aerial if your broadband is spotty.

Does the Hisense U7Q Pro support Dolby Vision IQ and should I care?

Yes, and yes, because it performs impressively well, dynamically adjusting brightness and tone mapping based on your room’s lighting conditions.
