Leaving someone “seen” on WhatsApp can be a very embarrassing situation. First because the initiative is not the most delicatethen because your recipient will be certain that you have seen their message, without taking the time to respond. Fortunately, there are two solutions (native and perfectly legal) to avoid this kind of problem, without having to go offline.
Disable read receipts
This is the simplest solution to make sure you never offer read confirmations to your interlocutors again. From your application settings, simply uncheck the “Read receipt“So your interlocutor does not will never know if you opened his message. The only flaw with this solution: the converse is also valid. You will no longer be able to see your loved ones’ read receipts. So it’s up to you if you prefer to play it fair, or if you want to be the only one to benefit from the trick.
For iOS users, this method is the only one that works. We will therefore have to be content with it. For Android users, however, a much more effective alternative solution exists, allowing you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
Go through the widget
On Android smartphones, it is also possible to read your messages directly from the app widget. From your home screen, hold down for a few seconds to access the widget menu. Then simply select the one dedicated to WhatsApp. Once installed, it will display all of your unread messages in full. Provided you do not press the message in question, you can easily consult your messages, and scroll to read the longest texts, without ever show the double blue check mark to your interlocutor.
To summarize
- Disable read receipts (iOS and Android)
- Use the Android widget
