HPEtogether with a group of partners made up of six technology companies and an American university, has announced the creation of the Quantum Scaling Alliancea global initiative dedicated to making quantum computing scalable, practical and transformative for companies in all types of sectors.

He The head of the initiative will be Masoud Mohseni, from HPE Labs. In addition, it will be its architect of quantum systems, and will be in charge of coordinating the initiatives launched by the companies and organizations that are part of the alliance.

The Quantum Scaling Alliance will have another person in charge: John Martiniswhich has received this year’s Nobel Prize for pioneering advances in quantum computing. Currently, Martinis is one of the founders of Qolab, and its CTO.

The group behind the Quantum Scaling Alliance set out to design and develop a practically useful and cost-effective quantum supercomputer, drawing on the experience of today’s supercomputing and semiconductor ecosystem.

The alliance combines expertise across multiple fields with the goal of scaling quantum computing from proof-of-principle demonstrations to industrial-scale applications. Its founding members, in addition to HPE, are 1QBit, Applied Material, Qolab, Quantum Machines, Riverlane, Synopsys and the University of Wisconsin. The latter will deal with algorithms and testbeds.

HPE will collaborate with the Quantum Scaling Alliance to develop scalable, hybrid solutions that seamlessly integrate quantum capabilities with classical high-performance computing and advanced networking. This convergence opens new possibilities for drug discovery, materials research, process optimization and secure data processing.

In addition to accelerating scientific discovery and business innovation today, the Quantum Scaling Alliance also prepares organizations for the profound changes that will occur in the sector in the future, ranging from productivity improvements thanks to the acceleration of progress in new technologies, to the challenges posed by post-quantum security.

According to Masoud Mohseni, “For quantum to succeed as a viable long-term computing paradigm, it must be scaled by integrating it with classical supercomputing systems. The Quantum Scaling Alliance offers a complete solution: a large alliance with horizontal integration that unlocks computing potential that would otherwise be unattainable through a vertical approach«.

As for Martinis, he highlighted that «Quantum computers are the key to transforming industries thanks to their unique ability to address intrinsically quantum problems. By harnessing quantum systems, we can achieve revolutionary advances in areas ranging from semiconductor manufacturing to sustainable fertilizer production, solving challenges previously considered insurmountable.«.
