Huawei on Tuesday announced its ambition of moving upscale to the top segment of automobiles, unveiling the first model under the top-luxury brand Maextro in a partnership with Chinese manufacturer JAC, the fourth member of its expanding Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA). The Maextro S800, a full-sized luxury saloon with a wheelbase of 3,370 millimeters, features elements such as a modernized two-tone colour scheme, vertical daytime running lights, and design wheels in silver polished finish to elevate its status further.

Notably, the car is built upon an architecture dedicated for enabling level 3 semi-autonomous driving technologies, Richard Yu, chairman of the board of directors of Huawei’s Intelligent Automotive Solution business unit, said at a press event in Shenzhen.

The luxury sedan is expected to compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Roll-Royce Phantom family at a pre-sale price between RMB 1 million and RMB 1.5 million ($137,800-$206,700), scheduled for launch in early 2025. The Chinese tech giant also said it has delivered more than 500,000 electric vehicles with three manufacturing partners under the HIMA umbrella, namely Seres, Chery, and BAIC. The first joint model between Huawei and a Chinese automaker, the Aito M5, was delivered starting March, 2022. [TechNode reporting, HIMA statement, in Chinese]
